Sobre a série:


   Três jovens garotas, Hikaru, Umi e Fuu, são transportadas para um mundo mágico chamado Cephiro durante uma excursão para a Torre de Tóquio. Elas recebem as boas vindas do Mago Mestre Clef, que explica a elas que elas foram chamadas para se tornarem as Guerreiras Mágicas de Rayearth e salvar Cephiro. As garotas não ficam entusiasmadas com essa idéia, e somente querem retornar para casa. Clef, explica que elas devem procurar os três Deuses Runa para ajudá-las a lutar. Ele dá a elas armaduras e poderes mágicos. Elas aprendem de Clef que o Sacerdote Zagato sequestrou o Pilar de Cephiro, Princesa Emeraude. O Pilar de Cephiro tem a responsabilidade de manter Cephiro vivo e em balanço com sua reza. Sem Princesa Emeraude, Cephiro iria cair em ruínas. Hikaru, Umi e Fuu devem lutar contra os servos de Zagato e achar os Deuses Runa se elas querem um dia voltar para casa. Elas logo descobrem que amizade e lealdade são as únicas coisas nas quais elas podem confiar na destruída Cephiro.
